Whether you have a need to get your business mobile or you travel with your family on a regular basis, you might want to look at or buy used MCI buses, which could easily be one of the most important investments you ever make. These massive vehicles offer ample space for travelers or equipment and some are already outfitted with things you would expect to see in a large RV. However, buying a used motor coach bus can also be a large investment, which means it should be an investment taken seriously. To ensure you get the most for your money, there are a few questions you should be asking the seller.

What was the motor coach bus used for by the previous owner?

Knowing what the motor coach was used for by the previous owner will tell you a great deal about it. For example, if the bus was primarily used for travel by a popular artist or traveling musician, there is a good chance the bus has been well maintained but likely also comes with high mileage.

Are there maintenance records available for the motor coach bus?

Maintaining the bus is an ever-important thing as an owner, but in some situations, these buses are so heavily used maintenance gets disregarded. Before you make an offer on a particular used bus you find, make sure you ask if there are maintenance records available. You will want to know things like:

  • how often the oil was changed
  • how often the engine had a service check
  • if the bus ever had transmission issues or maintenance attention
  • how long the tires have been in use

If maintenance is a little outdated, you could use this as a negotiating point.

Has the motor coach bus been involved in any accidents?

You may think it would be obvious if a bus was involved in an accident, but this is definitely not the case. In many situations, you will never be able to tell by looking at the outside of the bus that an accident ever occurred (unless the damage is still visible). The only problem is, if a motor coach bus is involved in a bad accident, a lot of the damages can be internally hidden by the outer shell. Axle problems, bent framing, and even loosened hardware caused by an accident can lead to major issues down the road with your used motor coach bus, so make sure you find out its full accident history before you buy.
